  2. What is heraldry • heraldry is the practice of designing, displaying, describing, and recording coats of arms and heraldic badges • Before the middle ages, heraldry wasn’t used for identification. However, during the middle ages things change……

What is going on during the middle ages • During the middle ages…. • Group and self identity becomes important to help identify people • The crusades begins- was a series of religious wars, blessed by the pope and the catholic church. Its main goal was to spread Christianity (the belief in god) to the holy land.

  4. Facts about the middle ages • the period of European history from the 5th century to the 15th century in Europe • A person was only educated if they came from wealth. • A child was taught the trade of his parents • Woman were to teach the children and take care of the home.

  5. What was going on in the united States at the time • The united states (401-1450) • The new world wasn’t discovered until 1492 by Christopher Columbus • Prior to that our land was only inhabited by Indians

  6. Modern uses for Heraldry • The united states uses heraldry to identify itself….. • Co Colors have meaning • Red, hardiness & valor, and Blue, the color of the Chief signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice • The bald eagle- symbol for virtue
