WHY INVADE? • Philip II of Spain was: • determined to punish Elizabeth for a number of reasons: • Angry about the rejection of his marriage proposal • Annoyed about religious differences - Catholics V Protestants • Angry about the execution of Mary Queen of Scots • Angry about English sailors robbing Spanish treasure ships
