  2. How do we determine tone or mood? • It is not easy to determine tone or mood, because they aresuggested, not stated. • Clues include: • The writer’s choice of language (words, phrases). • The writer’s choice of details. • The writer’s use of vivid description. • The writer’s use of imagery.
