Consortium for Materials Properties Research in Earth Sciences [COMPRES] • COMPRES is an organization to promote and facilitate high-pressure research in the science of Earth materials • COMPRES is charged with the operation and oversight of high-pressure beamlines for Earth sciences at national synchrotron and neutron facilities • COMPRES currently has 49 U.S. member institutions and 25 foreign affiliates • COMPRES supports the development of new technologies for high-pressure research • COMPRES advocates for science and educational programs with various funding agencies • Funded initially by the NSF for a 5-year period starting May 2002 • FY05 funding level $2.1M • New 5-year proposal expected in 2006 • Learn more at: http://www.compres.us/ PROGRAM ELEMENTS: • Community Facilities at the NSLS, ALS and APS synchrotron light sources, and neutron studies for the SNS and LANSCE and other neutron facilities • Infrastructure Development Projects at 10 U.S. universities • Meetings and Workshops • Education and Outreach [including student interns at beamlines]
