  6. MaST is about Increasing Choice The MaST choice is very prescribed in grade 9 – the only option is Art, Music or Drama. This allows us to provide a very specialized program.

  7. MaST is about Increasing Choice Each year afterwards allows greater choice; 3 courses in grade 10, 4 courses in grade 11 and 6 courses in grade 12. This allows each student to personalize their program to meet their needs.

  9. Extra Grade 12 Credits MaST allows students to take some Grade 12 courses in Grade 11. This allows for a greater range of courses to be taken before graduating. By increasing experiences, we help them to find out what they really want to do in university and life

Most Common Concern by Students Going into a special program makes the work harder and my grades will be higher if I go to a regular program • Not in MaST: • You go to “regular” class in Grade 12 • Since Grade 12 marks matter for scholarships and universities, you do better in Grade 12 because we have been developing your study skills from Grade 9! • You can have 3 Grade 12 Credits in Grade 11 and make your “regular” Grade 12 year lighter

  15. Does being in a special program make a difference in university applications? • No. This is a myth. • The University of Toronto’s Engineering Department held an information seminar and they said: “All Grade 12 Ontario public schools schools are treated equally.”

  18. Entrance Test Saturday January 28, 2012 9:45 Arrive at cafeteria 10:00 Math Test 11:00 Break 11:15 Science Test and SHORT ESSAY 12:15 Head home.

  19. Important Dates Jan. 23 Application Packages Jan. 28 MaST Entrance Test (approximately 200 people write) Feb. 14 Notification by Mail Feb. 24 Acceptances Required (50)

Overview of Tour Room A74 – Engineering, Careers, Comp Sci Room A76 - Engineering Design & Physics Room B47 – Tech, Design, Architecture Room B54 - Mathematics Room C45 – Geography, Social Sciences Room C6 – Science, Chemistry, Biology Library and C9 – Parent and Student Rooms Room C22 – Art, Music, Drama Tours lead by two current MaST students in grades 9 and 10. Feel free to ask them extra questions while walking between stations.
