  1. Armor, Warfare and Weapons By Mike Russell, Austin Roff, And Brandon Poss

  2. Armor • Body armor made of many iron strips layered together by leather straps • Replaced by chain mail and scale armor

  3. Armor • Helmets made of bronze, with a deep, heavy neck and ear guards to deflect sword strokes • Shields made mostly of bronze, with a wooden backing

  4. Jousting • Knights sometimes jousted in tournaments • The joust was a medieval sport • Both knights rode on horseback wearing armor and pointed a sharpened lance toward their opponent • They continued fighting on the ground even after being knocked off

  5. Warfare • The middle ages saw the new developments of warfare that included both siege warfare and pitched battles.

  6. Weapons • Warriors used weapons like halberds, lances, swords, greatswords, etc. • Others used crossbows and bows for ranged attacks

  7. Siege Weapons • Large movable structures like ballista were used to kill people from long range or siege castles • Trebuchets were used to break down castle walls.

  8. Warships The ships of the of the time where powered by either sail or row. Many ships where used to transport men from one place to another . They could also transport cargo and other things needed for war

  9. Cross bow • The crossbow range was 350 – 400 yards but could only be shot at a rate of 2 bolts per minute. • The crossbow was easy to use, requiring minimal training and required little strength to operate

  10. War hammer • This weapon had a hammer head on one side and a spike on the other • The war hammer weapon could be mounted on either a long shaft or a short shaft • A blow could apply tremendous force

  11. Medieval Shields • Medieval Shields were developed to shield, or protect, a knight or soldier from the direct blows from the weapons of their enemies • The decoration on a shield, or shield symbols, allowed knights to be easily recognized.
