  1. Geometry Scavenger Hunt ELED 4315: Mathematics Methods Pasadena ISD Quest 2: Spring 2006 Amber M. Gonzales Brenda Garcia Lizette DeLeon

  2. Point A Geometric figure formed at the intersection of two distinct points This spider web was found on the internet, and shows how a point can be seen occurring naturally in nature. The spider began its web from one central place of origin. Nature This Christmas star was found from an Internet sight, and displays a man-made point. All of the strands formed from one point of origin. This is a textbook example of how a point can be described. Textbook Example Man-Made Textbook Example

  3. Parallel Lines A Parallel lines are two distinct coplanar lines that do not intersect. Parallel lines have the same slope. These tall trees represent a set of parallel lines occurring naturally in nature. The two trees have the same slope, but never intersect. The picture was found on Freefoto.com Nature This is how parallel lines would be shown in a text book. This example was found on the internet. These rail road tracks display a parallel line that is man made. The two tracks are the same, but never intersect. I found this picture from an Internet source. Man-Made Textbook Example

  4. Pythagorean Triple The sides of a right triangle. The sum of the squares of the legs of the right triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. The bill on this ducks beak makes a natural occurring Pythagorean triple. The photo was found on the internet. Nature This bridge has Pythagorean triples in the support beam found along the length of the bridge. The picture was found on the internet. This is an example of a Pythagorean triple found in a text book, the legs of the triangles squared are equal to the square of the hypotenuse Textbook Example Man-Made

  5. Fractal A figure that is self-similar. That is, no matter how far you zoom in on the figure, the portion you look at is similar to the original figure. This natural fractal is a fern leave, it was found on the internet at FreeFoto.com This fractal was found on the internet at a site which produces new fractals daily. Nature This Text book example shows that all the sides of the figure are similar. This picture was found on the internet via Mathwords.com Textbook Example Man-Made

  6. Oval An egg-shaped curve. An oval is denoted by one end being wider than the other end. An oval is not the same as an ellipse. This egg is wider at one end than it is at the other end therefore forming a naturally occurring oval. This picture was found on the internet. Nature This mask is shaped like an oval it was found on the internet and is apart of a larger picture. This picture is a classic example of what an oval looks like inside a textbook. It was found on Mathwork.com Textbook Example Man-Made

  7. Congruent Items Exactly equal in size and shape. Congruent sides or segments have the exact same length. Congruent angles have the exact same measure. For any set of congruent geometric figures, corresponding sides, angles, faces, etc. are congruent. This flower has congruent petals. Each bell shaped petal is exactly the same in both size and shape. These colored pencil vary in color, but are exactly the same in size and shape. This picture was found on the internet. This textbook example shows how each side is exactly the same in size and shape. Even though they differ in direction Nature Textbook Example Man-Made

  8. Ray A part of a line starting at a particular point and extending infinitely in one direction. This is a picture of an underwater sun glare. The glare from the sun created blue rays of light from underneath the ocean. This picture was found online at Image*after.com Nature The light from these theatrical lights produces rays.
