  1. Web Page Creation World Wide Web Collection of information held in multimedia form on the Internet. Web Sites A site (location) on the World Wide Web. Each Web site contains a home page, which is the first documentusers see when they enter the site. Web Page A single page of information on a web site.

  2. Viewing Web Pages Browsers are used to view web pages. A browser is a program that allows the user to surf the www. Examples Microsoft Internet Explorer Firefox Netscape

  3. Web Address The location, or URL, of a web site, file, or resource on the Internet. For example www.bbc.co.uk Also known as URL Uniform Resource Locator. You will learn more about web addresses in Unit 12

Software needed for web Creation HTML – Hyper Text Mark-up language The programming language used to create documents for display on the World Wide Web. <HTML> <b>Hello S3 – How are you today?</b> <HTML> Top Tip Open any web page in Internet Explorer and choose Source on the view menu to see the HTML code for the page. This line is in bold.

Text Editor – Notepad, SimpleText Allows the user to enter HTML directly into a text editor. • Advantage • No need to buy special software • Programmer has more flexibility • Disadvantages • Very difficult and time consuming to write a program using HTML • Difficult to imagine the final result

Mircosoft Front Page and Dreamweaver Advantage See how the page will look No need to know HTML code Disadvantage Can be expensive For complex web page editors users would need training.

  7. Question How do users move between web pages? Answer Hyperlinks Hyperlink Links to another web page or another file or even another site on the Internet. Hyperlinks are activated by clicking on a piece of text, on a button or a particular area. Click Here – usually coloured blue and underlined.

  8. Websites can contain: • Text • Images • Audio • Video • Animation • Audio • Sound files can be embedded in a web page but this will increase the size of the file. • OR • The creator can put a hyperlink to the sound file on the page.

  9. Video Video can be embedded in a web page but this will increase the size of the file. Or A creator can hyperlink to a video file. Tables Tables are used to organise data in a web page by displaying it in a rig of rows and columns.

  10. Hotspot A special area on a web page, which is normally invisible when viewed in a browser. Can triggered by an event when the mouse moves over it. The mouse usually changes to a small hand. A hotspot has a hyperlink of a piece of programming code associated with it.
