  3. A polar bear at Budapest Zoo catches a fish in her mouth while diving in the pool. The bears are fed only in the cold water to protect them from the current extreme heat.

  4. A young lion, born on June 11, passes by its mother, Okoa, at Basel Zoo in Basel, Switzerland.

  5. A seal swims past a visitors' glass window at Zoo Frankfurt in Germany.

  6. Two deer wander in the burnt forest of the Mount Parnitha National Park near Athens, Greece.

  7. A severely burned 3-month-old kitten is held by a nurse at the Animal Hospital in Cotati, Calif. Two 15-year-old girls, now facing animal cruelty charges, allegedly poured flammable liquid on the cat and set her on fire. The kitten has undergone two surgeries and had her tail and the tips of her ears amputated.

  14. Handicapped dogs named Pitzi (left) and Doll walk with their wheelchairs during a parade in Lima, Peru. The parade was organized to promote orphaned pets' adoption and rights.

  15. A 2-week-old black panther named Milica is shown at the Belgrade Zoo in Serbia. A dog has adopted Milica and rears the cub along with her own puppies. The little panther's mother had tried to eat it.
