  1. Agenda 3/2/05 Art for New Media • Quick Write/Sketch • Finish up In Class Assignments #8 and #9 (They will be graded/checked tomorrow during class.) • Review for the quiz, below is the source material: • My slides from 2/25/05 • The websites: • http://www.mundidesign.com/presentation/index2F.html • http://www.poynterextra.org/cp/index.html • http://daphne.palomar.edu/design/color.html • The Art Fundamentals CD (you can check one out from the sub if you need it) • Color Theory Quiz today at 2:45 p.m. (ONE SIDE of ONE SHEET of notes permitted)

  2. Quick Write/Sketch 3/2/05 • These questions should help you with the quiz, answer them as your Quick Write/Sketch for today: • Draw a color wheel that shows the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. • Describe the following color scheme (or circle them on your color wheel): achromatic, chromatic grays, monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic. • Describe what the terms hue, value, and saturation mean. • Describe the difference between the additive and subtractive color systems and name the primary colors in each.

  3. In-Class Assignment #8 (In case you need to remember…) • Make a new folder directly in your student home directory folder and call it "PSD_originals" • Using what you know about ImageReady so far, try to digitally recreate your Quick Write/Sketch • Use only the tools I showed you today • Use color! • Make sure to save your files as .psd files in your new "PSD_originals" folder • Remember that PSD is the native ImageReady file format and will NOT work on the web • We will learn how to make them work on the web next class • Studey this online tutorial about Color Theory (take notes, lots of questions from here will be on the quiz!): http://www.poynterextra.org/cp/index.html

  4. In-Class Assignment #9 (In case you need to remember…) • Read and understand the webpage at: http://daphne.palomar.edu/design/color.html • Create 6 quick files in ImageReady, showing your understanding of the 6 color schemes that Mr. Saw describes on the above web page. • Name the files with what it is that you are demonstrating, such as "achromatic.psd," "chromatic_grays.psd," etc., and save them in your "PSD_originals" folder. • Then resave each file (using the "Save Optimized As…” command) as a gif or jpg and put it in your "practice" folder (yes, you will have 2 copies of each file) • Then create a webpage called "color_schemes.html" that has all your jpg or gif's and an explanation in your own words of each color scheme.
