  1. FALCON 2016Executive Director’s Report Highlights of 2015/2016 FALCON 2015 Conference in Denver: 175 attendees (most ever), representing 32 of the 34 1994s. 40 students in attendance. A 1994 water working group was formed to plan for a collaborative initiative around water education, research and outreach. Continuing a collaboration with UN-Reno on “Native Waters on Arid Lands” AFRI-funded program.

  2. Federal Budget Update FY 2016-2017 * After FY 2017 appropriated payment endowment corpus = $207,017,000 / latest interest yield distributed to TCU, after USDA 4% admin. payment = $4,517,676

FALCON 2016Executive Director’s Report National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals (NACDEP) Professional associationfor Community Development Extension educators throughout land-grant system Emphasis on Community Development as a cross-cutting discipline that touches on education, health, economic development, natural resources, etc. Annual conference is June 11-14, 2017, in Big Sky, MT Call for proposals are open now. FALCON scholarships available.

FALCON 2016Executive Director’s Report North Central Regional Association of Agricultural Experiment Station Directors Professional associationfor Research Directors in northcentral region (all 1862s). Wanting to collaborate with the 1994s on multi-institutional research. Spring conference is April 3-5, 2017, in San Antonio, TX.

  5. FALCON 2016Executive Director’s Report FALCON Water Working Group Formed to plan for a collaborative initiative around water education, research and outreach. Conducted a survey in early 2016 of the 1994 interests related to water. 71 valid responses showed a high level of interest in water quality and the sustainability of water resources. Extension-led effort shows most promise and easiest start-up. A resource toolkit for extension work may include: needs assessments of tribal community priorities, then the development of curricula (fact sheets, lesson plans, testing/monitoring protocols, etc.), and then the sharing of resources and expertise among the 1994s.

  6. FALCON 2016Executive Director’s Report Leadership Development for the 21st Century (LEAD21) Premiere leadership development program for the land-grant system. Fantastic opportunity to learn about self, teams, and the land-grant system. 10-month program; 3 in-person sessions (June, Oct., Feb.) Last year, we announced a FALCON-sponsored 50% tuition scholarship (worth about $5,000) for one 1994 applicant to participate in LEAD21 each year. LEAD21 will match, so tuition is essentially free. You pay for travel (about $5,000)
