DESCRIPTION

The Scops Owl (Otus senegalensis) is a remarkable bird of prey known for its sharp talons, curved beak, and exceptional eyesight. Found across various regions of the world except Antarctica, this owl primarily feeds on insects, reptiles, bats, and small mammals. Scops Owls are monogamous, typically laying one egg per year and incubating it in abandoned nests. Despite their adaptability, they face threats from environmental pollutants like DDT, which can harm their eggs. Learn more about this fascinating species and watch a video of the Scops Owl in action.

Spotting an easy meal, birds of prey like eagles, vultures etc pick them up. As a result, the chemical enters the birds body causing diseases and even death in most cases. DDT also causes the birds to lay eggs with very thin shells. The thin shelled eggs break easily and the embryo will die
