CDE/DE discussion Definition: • Fixed representations of variables to be collected and analyzed in a particular domain • Consists of: • Precisely defined question (and alllowed variants) • Specified format or set of permissible values for response (answer) • Steward or responsible entity • Defined unambiguously in both human and machine-computable terms • Can be used to create standardized questionnaires, survey instruments, and case report forms • Used for data collection in research, patient registries and surveillance studies
