  1. Psalm 40: 1-3 Psalm 40 God Sustains His Servant. For the choir director. A Psalm of David. 1I waited patiently for the LORD;         And He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,         And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. 3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;         Many will see and fear         And will trust in the LORD. Finding a Strong Footing

  2. Knowing Where You Are Finding a Strong Footing • Determine Your Position • David’s life had many situations of difficulty • Are you in a pit? • Determine Your Viewpoint • Do you want to get out or stay in?

  3. Knowing What is Possible Finding a Strong Footing • All things are possible • It takes patience to get out and onto firm footing and it will take perseverance to stay there. • David records six action verbs in these verse to describe God’s answer to his prayer, they are: • He Turned He Lifted He Gave • He Heard He Set He Put

  4. Knowing What is Possible Finding a Strong Footing • Scriptures of possibility • For he will deliver the needy who cry out, Ps. 72:12 • But he took note of their distress when he heard their cry; for their sake he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented. Ps. 106:44,45 • The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. He does not ignore the cry of the afflicted. Ps. 9:9;12 • I love the LORD, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy. Because He turned his ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live. Ps. 116:1-2 • To the LORD I cry aloud, and He answers me from His holy hill. Psalm 3:4

  5. Knowing What is Possible Finding a Strong Footing • Evidence of possibility • Others have been delivered • * Joseph • * Daniel • * Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego • * Paul and Silas • * Coal miners

  6. Knowing the Result • The work that you allow God to do in you will turn cause others to put their trust in God just as God turned to help you • Deliverance from trouble impresses on us our responsibility to proclaim the goodness of God. • Preach Christ Teach of Christ • Exemplify Christ in all aspects of our lives, relationships and service • Abide in Christ in our personal devotions and thoughts • Witness of Christ Love with the love of Christ • Give with the resources of Christ Worship Christ • Fellowship with believers in Christ Endure with Christ • Equip others in Christ Find your resources in Christ • Find your protection in Christ Find your all sufficient grace in Christ • Suffer with Christ Know Christ and make Christ known • Confess your sins to Christ Delight yourself in Christ • Look to Christ as the One who help you overcome • Develop the character qualities of Christ • Be empowered by Christ and His Word Finding a Strong Footing

  7. You need to decide this one thing when it comes to the pit. Do you want to get out or stay in? As Beth Moore writes, God is not a firm place to stand. He is a firm place to stay. (pg. 161 “Get out of that Pit”) Do you want to get out of the pit for a while or do you want to get out for good? Is it on Christ the Solid Rock you Stand? • The evidence is sound and the scriptures are sure of His ability to rescue you from the pit. Now comes the real issue – Can you trust Him to do it no matter how long it takes or how hard it may seem? • When the deliverance comes and the new song fills your heart, do as • David did, he talked about the Lord’s faithfulness and saving power. He told everyone in the great assembly of the Lord’s unfailing love and faithfulness." Things to Remember and Do
