  2. INTRODUCTION  Bridges, which have lightweight, are more vulnerable to heavy weight vehicle.  The vibration induced by vehicle loads makes passengers uncomfortable. Propose appropriate passive control device for vibration control of bridges.

  3. Longitudinal Section Cross Section FORMULATION OF MATHEMATICAL MODEL  Modeling (1) (2) Schematics of the bridge equipped with proposed passive control device

  4. (3)  Multiplying eq.(1) by (3) Applying orthogonal condition (4) (5) (6)

  5. (7) (8) (9) Optimization of Device Parameters (10) When J is minimized, the damping coefficient and spring constant in the control device are optimized.

  6. Numerical Example Composite Steel Plate Girder Bridge “Generalized of Design for Short Span Steel Bridges Using Rolled Beam”, Magazine of the Korean Society of Steel Construction, vol.14, No.1, pp. 77~82.  Geometry and Material Properties  Bridge  Control Device Schematics of the bridge

  7. Displacement of Mid-span Acceleration of Mid-span Optimal Damping Coefficient and Spring Constant Simulation Results

  8. Conclusions •  Proposed Passive Control Device • - can reduce both displacement and acceleration • simultaneously. • - can decay the steady-state responses fast. • Proposed passive control device could be effectively used for vibration control of bridges under vehicle loads.
