  1. Earth Charter Course Week 3: YouthSustainability Leadership First & Last Name: MaamouneGaabouri Country: Morocco Field of study: Business administration

  2. Challenge The high rate of illetracy, the lack of awarness of the majority of moroccan families and the inefficient education system impacts heavily the behavior of children in terms of citizenship principles. The combination of all these factors make our children unaware of values, principles and behaviors that make the members of a society real citizens.

  3. Guiding principles • 14.a: Provide all, especially children and youth, with educational opportunities that empower them to contribute actively to sustainabledevelopment. • 9.b: Empower every human being with the education and resources to secure a sustainable livelihood, and provide social security and safety nets for those who are unable to support themselves.

  4. Solution In order to make children aware of citizenship principles, we have thought of an original approach to tackle the problem. Here’s the idea: we’ll first write a 20 pages book entitled “citizenship book”. Each page of the book deals with one principle (for example saving water…).

  5. The book will be written, of course, in a way that will be comprehensible for pupils of 10 to 12 years old. Also, to back up the distribution of the books to schools, we’ll visit the concerned schools twice every month, and we’ll study with the pupils a principle in each session. Here are some principles with pictures that will be included in the book:

  6. Water is the most important thing in life, do not waste it.

  7. I don’t throw the garbage everywhere, i put it into the blanket.

  8. Whenever i have a useful idea, i take initiative to put it into practice.

  9. P.S: The commentsbellowpictureswillbewriten in arabic, our official language. This isourcurrentproject, we are about to finish the book, meanwhilewe are looking for funds to printenough book copies. Our cooperationwith a youthorganizationaffiliated to a political party is about to befruitful in terms of funding.

  10. The comingproject, that i considermy « dreamproject », is to carry out a feasibilitystudy about recycling in Morocco. Garbage and waste management is one of the big challenges we face. I’mdreaming about the day, we’llembracethisproject. May bei’llneedyour help guys, to provide me with informations about recycling in your countries.
