MAGIC-II focuses on advanced applications for mission planning and crisis management. It aims to address critical application requirements including real-time and archived dataset processing, data fusion from diverse sources (such as weather and terrain data), and support for large user capacities, like command centers or mobile environments. The initiative builds upon MAGIC-I to tackle scalability challenges in these scenarios. Funded by DARPA, MAGIC-II involves multiple participants including prestigious labs and universities to ensure robust data networking and visualization capabilities.

MAGIC-II Overview • The MAGIC-II scenario is based on applications such as mission planning and crisis management • Application requirements • locate, process, display real-time and/or archived datasets on-the-fly • fuse multiple types of data (e.g., weather, terrain) • be able to transfer large volumes of data for interactive visualization • support a range of user capabilities (e.g., large command center, or a mobile user) • The objective of MAGIC-II is to build on work and facilities of MAGIC-I to solve the scaling problems associated with these application scenarios
MAGIC-II Participants • DARPA-funded • Corporation for National Research Initiatives • Earth Resources Observation Systems Data Center • Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory • Minnesota Supercomputer Center • SRI International • University of Kansas • Organizations contributing resources • Southwestern Bell Telephone • Splitrock Telecom • Sprint • US West Communications
