  3. Early Life of Jackie • Was Born in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919 • Later moved to Pasadena, California with his mother and siblings

  4. Robinson Family • Jackie was the youngest of 5 children • Parents were Jerry (a sharecropper) and Mallie Robinson • Met wife Rachel Isum in 1940 and married her after joining the Dodgers • Had three children of his own

  5. Education • John Muir Technical High school • Won honors and lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field • Pasadena Junior College from September 1937 to August 1939 • UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) • On an athletic scholarship

  6. Early Accomplishments • UCLA’s first four letter athlete • Team's highest scorer for two years in basketball • Won national championship in long jump

  7. More Accomplishments • All-American halfback on the university's football team • Was awarded his commission of second lieutenant in January of 1943 for the United Stated Army
