  1. AI3 Malaysia (USM) Activity Report Jun 2003 By Wan Tat Chee

  2. Site Update • New earth station completed and located on top of new computer science building and it is pointing to JCSAT 3. • The old antenna is now pointing to MEASAT for DA-TDMA project with TP. • New fibre connection form cabin to new building is up. No more error prone wireless link.

  3. Link Configuration • 1.5 Mbps downlink • 512 kbps uplink • Cisco bridge mode for Layer 2 • Router for IPv4 & IPv6 running FreeBSD 4.7 with Zebra 0.9b (latest release) • Currently link down due to ODU failure 

  4. Sub-domain Update • BGP for IPv4 is completed but only advertised within WIDE. • Addresses block /27, given by John Barlow from Australia is too insignificant to advertise by ISP. • USM (AS17815) is peering with WIDE IPv6 network (AS4717). • Will try to peer with other AS using IPv6 network.

  5. Current IPV6 Network 2001:200:800:6000::1 AI3 IPv6 Network 2001:200:800:6000::/64 2001:200:860:1000/64 2001:200:800:6000::2 2001:200:860:1000::1

  6. New BGP4+ Peer (In progress…) • MANIS has agreed to peer with USM IPv6 network through BGP4+. • We are in the process of setting peer with MANIS. • Since USM has no native IPv6 network to MANIS, we will tunnel through TMNet IPv4 network to MANIS.

  7. TP UPM NTU Current NRG Exchange MEASAT JCSAT 3 Keio Japan NRG Exchange Fiber AI3 (IPv4 and IPv6) TMNet (IPv4 Only) MANIS (IPv6 only) CS Network (IPv4 only) Tunnel In Progress…

  8. Connecting IPv4 Islands to Ipv6 Ocean (1) • This proposed project will discuss the ideas, steps and issues involving the transition of supporting IPv4 island through this new migration protocols ( 6to4 and 4to6 ?) • An experimental setup will prove the validation of this research

  9. Connecting IPv4 Islands to Ipv6 Ocean (2) AS X IPv4 Only Internet IPv6 Only Internet (BGP 4+) 6 to 4 (?) Gateway AS Y (BGP 4+) AS Z OSPFd ipv6 subnet 6 to 4 (?) Gateway OSPFd ipv6 subnet (BGP 4+) 4to6(?) tunneller IPv4 Island IPv4 Island

  10. UDL Mesh Satellite Networks Using DVB-S Technology • New unidirectional mesh satellite network. • Harnessing the low cost DVB-s equipment. • Using ARP modification instead of encapsulation. • Currently is now on driver development stage.

  11. UDL Mesh Lab Setup

  12. DA-TDMA Update • Initiated by Temasek Polytechnics from Sg. • Involved USM,UPM in Malaysia and TP and NTU in Singapore. • Project halted due to incompatible ODU and IDU. • USM and UPM in the process of acquiring a frequency converter (140Mz – 70Mhz).

  13. Installation of UDL RO Station. • USM plan to join AI3’s UDL link. • Need to setup a RO station in USM. • Progress….pending.

  14. i-Netmon for Partners. • i-Netmon, a network monitoring tools developed by USM is now available for AI3-partners • IPv4 and IPv6 real-time monitoring • Each AI3-partner is allowed to install one copy of iNetmon for non-Commercial use • To be available from AI3 website partners-only area

  15. IPv6 Workshop • At the same time, NRG is hosting a IPv6 workshop. • Aim to promote collaboration between IPv6 researchers in Malaysia.
