  2. Leadership: Motivator vs. Innovator Motivation Techniques Innovative Methods 1. Get to Know Your People It is virtually impossible for a leader to motivate people without getting to know them..a leader who does not know what makes each person tick will find it very difficult to motivate them. Similarly, if the leader does not know a persons strengths, he will be unlikely to find the right role for them. “The key is to get to know people and trust them to be who they are. Instead, we trust people to be who we want them to be- and when they're not, we cry” • One on One Meetings • Profile Sheet • Feedback Questionnaire • Survey

  3. Leadership: Motivator vs. Innovator Motivation Techniques Innovative Methods 2. Take Care of the Little Things Doing the little things will show that you respect your team members. Little things go a long way which show that you care during chaotic times. When you execute the little things to perfection, then the score and the victory will take care of themselves! The victory will happen. It will happen because each one of you has done your part. Your collective efforts will come together as a victory. Leadership: Motivator vs. Innovator Motivation Techniques Innovative Methods 3.Be an Active Listener to Motivate Others Recent research stated that the average person only invests two hours per year applying “pure listening” skills.  Pure listening is when you are listening to the other person and you are not doing other things. We listened to what our customers wanted and acted on what they said. Good things happen when you pay attention. Let People Know They Make a Difference At the top of many lists of what motivates people, more than money, is knowing that they make a difference. One of the most powerful methods of letting people know they make is difference is…praise ! The praise should relate to how the people help achieve the overall mission of the organization. Instruction does much, but encouragement does everything. Johann Wolfgang • Give opportunity to show talent • Excellent work • Job well-done • I appreciate you • Couldn’t have done it without you

  6. Leadership: Motivator vs. Innovator Motivation Techniques Innovative Methods 5. Communicate Clearly Communicate so that others understand what you want to achieve.  Adapt your communication to the audience you are speaking to.  Constantly communicate your vision and goals so that there are no misunderstandings.  The clearer the vision, the clearer the communication, the clearer the opportunity for success The single biggest problem in communication Is the illusion that it has taken place. George Bernard Shaw • Email • Internet • Texting • Facebook • Twitter

  7. Leadership: Motivator vs. Innovator Motivation Techniques Innovative Methods 6. Reward Outstanding Achievement Find ways to recognize your achievers in a public way.  The more you reward people for excellent achievement, the more you receive more of the same behavior.  Make sure you are consistent with the way you contribute rewards to people.  Very importantly make sure you communicate exactly why the person is being rewarded.  And lastly, reward as soon as possible the action. There are two things people want more than sex and money -- recognition and praise." --Mary Kay Ash • Star Spotlight • Certificates • Gift cards • Lunch • Parking Spot
