  1. Welcome to Your Interactive JournalWe will prepare for organizational success in Social Studies class using an interactive spiral and for organizational success at DVMS by getting our Ids. Counts Equal to a Test 1 of 3 every six weeks 20 Percent of Your Grade It’s Everything You Learn

  2. Set Up – Administrative Chores • Number Pages 1-100. Use both sides of paper. Odd numbers should be on right side; even numbers should be on left. • Glue “Hallmark’s Golden Rules” on inside front cover. • Title pages 1-3 “Table of Contents” – yes, on every page. • Glue in “Notebook Set Up” sheets on appropriate sides of pages 4 (Left) and 5 (Right). Do NOT cut off any words! • Glue in “Notebook Rubric on page 6; • Glue in Day 1 Rotation Chart on page 7. • Glue Class Contract on page 8. • Pre-AP Contract on page 9 if Pre-AP. • Glue Instructional Overview on Page 10. • Count 12 pages from the back of the spiral. Then starting with A, label each page until you get to Z. Put X, Y, & Z on same page.

What You Need To Know! • READ pages 4-5 to know where to put things, get examples of ROCS and Unit pages, and to know what’s what. • Update your Table of Contents as you go. • All your bell ringer words, their definitions, and synonyms MUST be alphabetical in the glossary at the back of your spiral.

  4. Previews or Processes • Your work that goes on the left-sidedpages of your notebook like warm ups, vocabulary applications, ROCs, analysis, etc. • A preview is your first look at a subject; a process is what you do to show you’ve mastered the objective/TPO.

  5. What’s a ROC? • Required Outside Credit: This is your homework every 3 weeks if you’re in a Pre-AP class and once every 6 weeks if you’re in a regular class! • You must do this if you want to earn a B or higher on your notebook. • It always goes on the left-side page of your notebook.

  6. What’s a Unit Page? • It’s a way to organize your work by each unit we study. • It’s a cover page that you must have for each unit we study. • It must contain pictures, vocabulary, and a title. • It always goes on the right-side page of your notebook.

  7. Table of Contents lists all your work and the pages each assignment is on. It helps both the teacher and student find all assignments to ensure you get credit for what you do! Table of Contents – Make sure it matches what’s inside your journal! 1-3 Table of Contents 4-5 Notebook Organization 6 Notebook Rubric Class Syllabus Pre-AP Contract Class Contract Day 1 Roundabout Chart Instructional Overview Unit I Wordle 13 Unit I Page – Who Are We As Americans? 14 Unit Calendar 15 Cultural Chart What’s the Table of Contents?

  8. Your Glossary • The back of your spiral contains an alpha list. • Every Friday, you are to add your bell ringer words and their definitions PLUS 2 synonyms to this in alphabetical order. • Add 1-2 words in your native language (Spanish, S’gaw Karen, etc.) IF it will help you understand the word’s meaning.

  9. Your Notebook is One Way to Find Success • Organization • Easy Access to Information for Tests • Day to Day Applications of What You Do in Class • Easy Monitoring by You, Your Parents, and Teacher

  10. How Your Spiral Will Be Graded • Start with 100 • Minus 10 for No Unit Pages • Minus 10 for Not Updating your Table of Contents • Minus 10 for No ROCS • Minus 10 for No Bellringer words • Minus 10 for Not Having ALL your work -11 if you’re just missing one element

  11. You and your parent/guardian must sign the rubric page and any contracts. Bring your journal EVERYDAY! Design your cover to reflect who you are as an American Create your Unit 1- Being An American, Foundations on page 13 according to the directions on page 5 Update your Table of Contents Homework due Monday, September 9
