Analysis & Display of Regional Haze Data – WRAP Technical Support System

This project aims to provide technical support for the regional haze planning process, assisting states and tribes in developing haze plans. The project includes analyzing and displaying regional haze data, addressing RHR-required elements, and supporting emissions reductions for visibility improvement goals. The Technical Support System is transparent, agnostic to any specific haze plan, and provides key technical data for decision-making.

  1. Analysis & Display ofRegional Haze Data –WRAP Technical Support System Attribution of Haze Workgroup Technical Support System Project Meeting March 29-31, 2006

Regional Technical Work for Haze Planning • Work is by/on behalf of states/tribes for regional haze plans • For visibility impacts at “their” Class I areas in the WRAP region, every state or tribe has: • A different planning process and requirements; • A unique distribution and magnitudes of sources under their jurisdiction; • A unique set of sources causing the average 20% worst days’ visibility impairment; and • These sources are: • Manmade and largely controllable; • Manmade and largely uncontrollable for various reasons; and/or • Defined as natural.

Regional Technical Work for Haze Planning • Technical analyses & displays are to support December 2007 haze plans that show “reasonable progress on emissions reductions” toward visibility improvement goals for each Class I area • Technical Support System characteristics: • Transparent results for key technical data • Addresses RHR-required elements of haze plans requiring regional technical support • “Agnostic” with respect to any particular haze plan

March 29-31 TSS Project meeting goals • For regional technical data and analytical results to be completed in 2006: • Assess website and data display formats • Review existing and planned TSS tools, and resulting interactive displays – graphs, charts, maps, tables, et cetera • Assess completeness of planned data & documentation content • Recommend additional data needed by December 2006, beyond planned content • Beyond 2006: • Identify useful/needed data content and functions for TSS in 2007 and beyond • Discuss potential 2007 workplan tasks
