  2. Biography : Giorgio de Chirico was a surrealist Italian painter born in Volos, Greece. He founded the scuola metafisica art movement. His dream-like paintings of squares typical of idealized Italian cities ,represented a visionary world. “MISTERY”is the most familiar word of De Chirico.

  3. Piazza d’Italia (square of Italy) The painting seems geometrical, the sky is dark and painted with unreal colours: green and yellow. The perspective is respected. This painting represents a square but it is not crowded, there are only two people. The statue representing a lying woman, reminds the mountains on the background. Maybe it’s the sunset and it’s warm and windy. It suggests quietness and loneliness.

  4. Souvenir d’Italy The buildings are strange statue gives its back to the and narrow. The painting is colourful and it gives a sensation of depth. The shadows of the buildings and the statue don’t correspond to their objects. The arches suggest that the houses are old .

  5. Mistery and melancholy Half of the painting is in shadow, the other part is lit up. The white building seems to be used to give a sense of depth and perspective. The dark side of the painting conveys the idea of “mistery”, while the lit up side gives the feeling melancoly. The child represents the passed young age and it is set in the lit up side.
