  1. CERCADEL CLIENTE NOBEL WP4 Questionnaire review Javier González Ordás December 1, 2004 Telefónica I+D

  2. Questionnaire motivation • Get a collective view across partners • Prioritise issues and functional capabilities • Guide WP4 further work • Align activities and focal points across task forces

  3. Questionnaire overview • Structured into reference points • UNI, E-NNI, NMI-A, UPI, PPI • 11 answers received • 7 from operators • 4 from equipment vendors • Partners filled the questionnaire in different manners • Overlapping topics • Discussion per reference point, not per capability • How to interpret a missing capability in an answer? • More answers in CP interfaces than in MP ones • In general, it is agreed that the CP focus should be • Short term: intracarrier. First E-NNI, then UNI. (I-NNI?) • Long term: intercarrier. First public UNI, then E-NNI

  4. Selected functional capabilities Importance Complexity Timing User authentication (UNI) High Med Mid Ethernet services (UNI) High Med- Short Service independence (UNI) Med Med+ Mid Service modification (UNI, E-NNI) Med+ Low Short VPN services (UNI, E-NNI, NMI-A) Med+ Med Mid+ Multi-layer networks (E-NNI) Med High Mid Information model (NMI-A) High Med+ Short

  5. Conclusions (I) • Need for uniform answers to better draw conclusions • New questionnaire on selected topics? • Higher interest on CP than on MP issues • Only information modelling received significatnt support on the MP side • Similar interest on UNI and E-NNI • Intra-carrier interface, the first priority in both cases • Low correlation between importance and timing • What should be NOBEL focus? • Work on capabilities covered by OIF UNI 2.0?

  6. Conclusions (II) • Consensus on user authentication as a key aspect • But is this really an innovative topic for NOBEL? • Ethernet and NG-SDH, both important and short term • VPN services are interesting • … but not in the shor term • Multi-layer networking received much attention • No agreement though on its real value • Importance of service independence was not valued especially high
