  2. Project Outline • Our goal was to engage the neighbourhood in the Three Bridges area of Port Colborne

  3. Progress When We Arrived • Survey had been completed • Community Gathering – “Open Space Technology” with Angela Carter took place in October

  4. What to Focus on? • Multiple community sub-groups were developed • Cleaning and greening group

  5. Community Garage Sale • Many benefits • Provide a means to contribute to the community • Connects the community • Empowered people

  6. Idea Took Off • bake sale • plant sale • sports exchange • BBQ • silent auction

  7. That Day • Uncertainty the day before • Other community groups had sales • Rained cats & dogs • Turnout was phenomenal!

  8. Outcomes • First event under East Village name • Community has its own leaders now • Vision for the future • Are planning 2012’s event

  9. Learnings • Dealt directly with people in community • Reminder of the strength of individual people • They never cease to amaze • Power of community

  10. Learnings • Re-affirmed the value of people and community • Showed the power of getting the ball rolling…one meeting turned into a successful event • We are NIAGARA
