Thomas Edison began his career as an inventor in , Newark , New Jersey a with the automatic repeater and his other improved telegraphic devices, but the invention which first gained him notice was the phonograph in 1877. This accomplishment was so unexpected by the public at large as to appear almost magical. • The famous scientists listed here have brought us out of the Dark Ages and into an age of scientific inquiry.

  7. End of his life • Thomas Edison died At 9 P.M. On Oct. 18th, 1931 in New Jersey. He was 84 years of age. Shortly before passing away, he awoke from a coma , his wife who had been keeping a vigil all night by his side:  "It is very beautiful over there..."
