  1. What is a Digital Story? Digital Storytelling is the modern expression of the ancient art of storytelling. Digital stories derive their power by weaving images, music, narrative and voice together, thereby giving deep dimension and vivid color to characters, situations, experiences, and insights. - Digital Storytelling Association

Examples of Digital StorytellingProjects • Research Projects • Personal Experiences • Book Reports • Historical events • Regional or local stories - Tell the “wild weather stories” from Wisconsin • Inventions - Explain how inventions and discoveries are important to others • Animals - Tell the story from the butterfly’s point of view • Authentic student writing - Bring a set of characters to life and act out the story • Math Ideas - Explain to others a concept like adding fractions using real life examples

How to start a Digital Story Step 1: Decide on the story You Want to Tell Step 2: Gather Your Materials – Pictures/Video Step 3: Begin Writing Your Script Step 4: Prep Your Equipment You'll need: • A computer or laptop • Video software such as Photostory, iMovie, Windows MovieMaker, etc…. • A (desktop) scanner, if you want to include traditional photos or a Camera to download pictures. Step 5: Create a Storyboard Step 6: Record a Voice-Over/Add Music (Freeplay Music) Step 7: Edit/Share Your Story

  5. Storyboards • In digital storytelling, it is important to plan out your story. The best way to do that is with a storyboard. • The storyboard gives you some organization before you begin creating your story on the computer.
