La Iglesia católica siempre se ha considerado la heredera espiritual de Cristo y a pesar de las disidencias y herejías ha intentado mantener siempre una línea continúa desde Jesús hasta nuestros días: El Papa, heredero directo de Pedro quien fue nombrado cabeza rectora de la Iglesia hasta el regreso de Jesús.

  3. El Estado mexicano es oficialmente laico. La separación entre las República sería la católica, y Morelos señalaba que no debería haber tolerancia para ninguna otra. A partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, inició un proceso de introducción de credos diferentes al católico

  4. El 26 de enero de 2007 el Papa Benedicto XVI erigió la diócesis de Ensenada con el presbiteroSigifredo Noriega Barceló como primer obispo, dividiéndose el país actualmente en 84 circunscripciones eclesiásticas
