  2. Family Preparedness Goal Help families prepare for disaster by discovering disaster hazards in their communities, developing plans to survive and ministering before and following a disaster. NAMB Family Preparedness

  3. Family Preparedness What is a disaster? Anything that causes human suffering or creates human needs that the victim can not alleviate themselves. NAMB Family Preparedness

  11. Developing a Family Disaster Supply Kit • Water - 1 gallon a day per person • Food - Canned - meats, fruits, vegetables, juices, soup, milk Staples - sugar, salt, pepper High Energy Foods - peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars, trail mix NAMB Family Preparedness

Developing a Family Disaster Supply Kit (continued) Comfort foods -cookies, hard candy, lollipops, sweetened cereals, instant coffee, tea bags Vitamins First Aid Kit-(Trauma type) Prescription Medication Aspirin or nonaspirin pain reliever Antacid Anti-diarrhea medication - Laxative Others NAMB Family Preparedness

Keep opened items in plastic bags or screw-top jars. Inspect food for spoilage before use. Use foods before they spoil or are out of date. Rotate food NAMB Family Preparedness

  19. Family Preparedness • Sheltering your family. Use your home if possible. Evacuate the area if possible. (Plan your routes). Stay with family or neighbors. Use a shelter sponsored by ARC or your church. Use camper or the tent in your Family Disaster Kit. If necessary use your van or automobile. NAMB Family Preparedness

  20. Family PreparednessSpiritual Preparation • See the disaster as a ministry opportunity! • Be READY to share the love of Christ. • PRAY, PRAY, PRAY! • Meet People’s Needs • Using Hope In Crisis NAMB Family Preparedness

  21. Family Preparedness When disaster strikes! Keep calm and institute your Family Disaster Plan. Turn off your utilities. Help others and provide leadership. Inspect your surroundings. Seek information (Radio, TV, government officials). Provide information to government officials. Secure your shelter or evacuate the area. NAMB Family Preparedness

  22. Family Preparedness When will the next disaster happen? Are you and your family prepared? Is your church prepared? What will you do as a result of being here today? NAMB Family Preparedness
