  1. Preparing to Worship Lesson 18 “…I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” (1 Timothy 3:15)

  2. Approaching God to Worship The Old Testament contains many examples of those who showed great reverence as they approached God. Moses (Exodus 3:4-5; 34:8-9) Solomon (2 Chronicles 7:1-5) Ezra and the Israelites (Nehemiah 8:6) The Lord is worthy of our greatest expressions of reverence and love! (Psalm 96:1-9; Hebrews 12:28-29)

  3. Preparing to Worship Acceptably There is purpose and preparation involved in worshiping God acceptably (cf. 2 Corinthians 9:7; Acts 20:7) Jesus has opened a way for us to approach God, but we must approach Him acceptably (Hebrews 10:19-22) With a true heart In full assurance of faith Having hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience Having bodies washed with pure water

The Importance of Knowing God and His Expectations for Worship “Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.” (Ecclesiastes 5:1) What mistakes did the following people make as they worshiped God? Cain (Genesis 4:3-7) Nadab & Abihu (Leviticus 10:1-3) Uzziah (2 Chronicles 26:16-22) Ananias & Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11)

  5. Reverence in God’s House When we come together as God’s house, the Lord is present (Matthew 18:20; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 14:25) Priests must approach God in holiness! This was required of Old Testament priests (Exodus 28:31-43) It is also required of us! (1 Peter 2:5, 9-11) Profanity is treating holy things as if they were common (Heb. 10:28-29; 12:16-17)
