  2. In the Beginning • Taxation caused tension between the British and the colonists. • The colonists harassed the soldiers verbally and physically.

  3. While the townspeople were insulting the soldiers, someone yelled ‘Fire’ and the soldiers started shooting.

  4. The Facts • The Boston Massacre happened on March 5, 1770. • Five were killed and eleven were injured. • The first to die was an African-American Chrispus Attucks.

  5. Defending the Enemy • John Adams defended the British soldiers. • Later he became the vice president and president of the United States.

  6. Conclusion • The Boston Massacre was an incident that sparked a rebellion by the colonists against the British. • A heavy tax initiated the tension between the British and the colonist.
