  3. What is Collaborative Learning? Collaborative learning is: • Students working in pairs or groups (usually picked randomly) • Students and teachers negotiating the rules that govern them • Students and teachers negotiating what is taught (as far as possible) and how it is taught

  4. Why useCollaborative Learning method? • Gives students practice working in teams • Increases student engagement with the material • Enhances critical thinking abilities through: • Discussion • Clarification of ideas • Evaluation of others’ ideas

  5. Considerations Before using groups, consider: • What is the amount of time students spend in group? • How you will manage group dynamics? • What is the ideal group size? • How will groups be formed? • How will you evaluate the group and/or end product?

  6. Instructors Need to Watch • Atmosphere of the group • Degree of participation • Interpersonal influence • Team roles • Being on task • Feelings of team members • Decision-making method
