    1. General ACT Test Taking Strategies: Get a decent nights sleep and eat a good breakfast. Answer EVERY QUESTION! (There is NO penalty for guessing) But, before guessing blindly, try to eliminate any unreasonable answer choices. If you finish early, go back and check your work (especially on the math test!)

    2. Practice, Practice, Practice!!!! If possible, take at least one entire practice test in your book in ONE sitting (and timed). There are 2 complete tests beginning on page 305 (with answers AND explanations). The entire test takes 2 hours, 45 minutes: English 45 minutes Math 60 minutes Reading 35 minutes Science Reasoning 35 minutes RELAX!!!

    3. Mathematics Test: Info and Strategies 60 Questions/60 minutes Pace yourself. What is tested? Pre-Algebra (23%) Elementary Algebra (17%) Intermediate Algebra (15%) Coordinate Geometry (15%) Plane Geometry (23%) Trigonometry (7%)

    4. Calculators MAY be used. Page 5 of your test booklet lists Prohibited Calculators. TI-83s are OK, but TI-89s or TI-92s are NOT! Watch especially for CAPITALIZED WORDS, words in italics, and units. Skip the more difficult questions at first. BUT, dont forget to go back, and be careful when you are filling in the answer sheet. TESTING the TEST strategy: Instead of solving the problem directly, sometimes its easier to test the answer choices. IF the answers are numbers, start with the middle choice, since answer choices are always in order from smallest to largest.
