Researching Majors • Find out what you are good at • Quizzes, grades • Found out what you like • Student Involvement • Know the Professional Requirements • Accounting – CPA Exam, 150 College Credits • Actuarial Science – Exams • Real Estate – Licenses • Finance - Series 7 or CFA Exams • Class Shadowing • Summer Programs

  6. High School Curriculum • Academically Focused • 4 years of English • 3 years of Math (recommended 4) • Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2 or Analytical Geometry and/or Pre Calculus, Trigonometry • Electives • Speech • Accounting • Marketing • Economics

AACSB International accreditation is widely regarded as the highest level of accreditation for business schools. • Learning Goals & Assurance of Learning • Ratios of Academically and Professionally Qualified Faculty • Five Year Reaccreditation Review • Only 25 percent of US business schools achieve AACSB International accreditation

  18. Graduate school? • Some careers really don’t need it • Accountants, actuaries (well, sort of) • Why an MBA right away doesn’t work • Consider an MS program

  19. Advising • Lots of freedom, but don’t ignore them • Why it’s important to see an advisor • Advisors are the gateway to a larger network • Good relationship means less trouble

  20. Competitive Job Market • The key is for the student to set themselves apart • Network, network, network • Doing more than what is expected • Find and leverage resources outside the school • Job search = college search • Start right away
