''Minors cannot work at night except under emergency conditions ... and this picture is approximately 80 percent night."' • James Dean actually hurt his knuckles in the scene where he punches a metal desk • Director Nicholas Ray researched L.A gangs by riding around with them for several nights. • Jim and Buzz, used real knives and wore chainmail to protect themselves during the knife fight. • Jim Stark's character (James Dean) was altered.
