  2. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • Introducción. A. Las parábolas son ilustraciones (como ventanas que dejan entrar la luz). Son historias terrenales con lecciones celestiales. • Introduction. A. Parables are illustrations (like windows that let the light in). They are earthly stories with heavenly lessons.

  3. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • B. Ilustran y conservan la verdad. Es fácil recor-dar parábolas: Hijo pródigo, buen samaritano. Cada parábola es una “obra maestra”. • B. Illustrate and conserve the truth. It is easy to remember parables: Prodigal son, good samari-tan. Each parable is a “masterpiece.”

  4. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • C. No son fábulas (como árboles que andan, animales que hablan). Se basan en las actividades normales de la vida. • C. They are not fables (like trees walking or animals talking). They are based on normal activities of life.

Multitudes followed Him, but for what pur-pose? Because of miracles, curiosity, loaves and fish, political purposes… but others were sincere.

Jesus presents to them a picture of themselves. He puts a mirror before them so that they could see what kind of hearers they were.

Wayside –hard heart, inattentive, distracted; small amount of dirt over rock – superficial, promptly accept, promptly fall; thorns – divided heart.

  10. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • D. Buena tierra – como los 3000, samaritanos, eunuco, Cornelio, Lidia, carcelero… Corazón bueno y recto, obedecen, llevan fruto. • D. Good soil – like the 3000, samaritans, eunuch, Cornelius, Lydia, jailor… Good and honest heart, obey and bear fruit.

The tares, Matt. 13:24-30, 36-43. Sowers: Christ and Satan. Field=world. Good seed = Christians; tares = sons of devil.

Se usa mal para negar textos sobre la disciplina. • A. “Kingdom” here not church. Same as “world” from which the wicked will be gathered at the end of the world. Misused to deny texts on discipline.

Lesson: Separation of good and bad only at the end of the world. Teaches the same thing as the parable of the dragnet, v. 47-50.

Mustard seed, leaven. Matt. 13:31-33. Growth of the kingdom. Humble beginning but was to grow and have worldwide impact.

Jews expected revolutionary changes. How are kingdoms established and extended? Conquest! But Jesus used and uses teaching.

Carpintero… de Nazaret … sus embajadores, galileos sin letras… evangelio llamado “locura”. • B. “Insignificant” beginning (according to men). Carpenter… from Nazareth… His ambassadors, uneducated Galileans… gospel called “foolishness.”

But it has had a tremendous impact on the world, over every aspect of civilization. Acts 17:6, “These who turn the world upside down.”

Muchos usan tácticas carnales: comida, ropa, atención médica, actividades sociales, teatro, servicios sensacionales (carismáticos). • D. Cannot rush the growth of the kingdom. Many use carnal tactics: food, clothing, medical atten-tion, social activities, theatre, sensational services (charismatics).

Treasure and pearl. Matt. 13:44-46. The value of the kingdom and the joy of finding it. Many only find a mountain of commandments, problems.

  20. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • A. El evangelio es un genuino tesoro. Vale más que todo logro humano y toda posesión terrenal. Filipenses 3:7, 8. • A. The gospel is a genuine treasure. It’s worth more than all human attainment and every earthly possession. Phil. 3:7, 8.

Vale la pena cualquier costo, cualquier sacrificio para obtener este tesoro, esta perla de gran precio. • B. “for joy…he sells all that he has.” Worthwhile no matter what the cost or what one has to sacrifice to obtain this treasure, this pearl of great price.

The good Samaritan, Lk. 10:25-37. Answers the questions: “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” and “who is my neighbor?”

Answers with a parable to DEMONSTRATE who his neighbor was. V. 36, he let him answer the question, “who was neighbor” to the wounded man?

No imitar al sacerdote, levita, sino al samaritano. • B. V. 37, “Go and do likewise”; that is, show mercy to everyone that needs it. Do not imitate the priest, levite, but rather the samaritan.

Friend at midnight, persistent widow, Lk. 11:5-13; 18:1-8. Ask and it will be given to you, but ask with sincerity, persistence.

We are totally dependent on God. James 1:17. Let’s not be like the Pharisee who did not ask for anything (Lk. 18:9-14). “Ask and you will receive.”

Our prayer to God should be like that of the man who asked for bread at midnight, or the widow who asked for justice from the judge. With SINCERITY.

God is not upset with us when we persist in prayer. Example of Jesus, Matt. 26:36-44; of Paul, 2 Cor. 12:8, 9. Also Jacob, Gen. 32:26.

Rich fool, Lk. 12:13-21. Lesson about covetousness: thirst for more (clothing, shoes, boots, jewelry, furniture, autos or motorcycles, vacations).

Didn’t read Bible, but only “thought within himself.” With whom do we consult about purchases? If one thinks “within himself” he will buy for himself.

Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • C. “Diré: Alma, muchos bienes tienes guardados para muchos años… repósate…” Creía que era dueño de su propia alma y también del futuro. • C. “I will say: Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years…take your ease.” He thought that he was owner of his own soul and also of the future.

The great supper, Lk. 14:16-20. “Come for all things are ready.” Prepared by Moses, prophets, John, Jesus, apostles. Gal. 4:4.

  34. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • A. “Y todos a una comenzaron a excusarse” con excusas muy necias… Pero las excusas de nosotros son igualmente necias. • A. “But they all with one accord began to make excuses…” with foolish excuses.. But the excuses we make are equally foolish.

  35. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • B. Lo que significa es que Cristo no es primero, que no tenemos que buscar primeramente su reino y su justicia. • B. What it means is that Christ is not first, that we do not have to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.

  36. Parábolas de Jesús – Parables of Jesus • IX. Las diez vírgenes, Mat. 25:1-13, la falta de preparación adecuada. Estar “preparados” a medias equivale a no estar nada preparados. • IX. The ten virgins, Matt. 25:1-13, the lack of adequate preparation. To be half-way “prepared” equals not being prepared at all.
