Be sure to— Be careful not to— become distracted by the quote or picture explain the quote or picture forget a thesis statement make statements you cannot support • state your position clearly • use appropriate organization • provide specific support for your argument • choose your words carefully • edit your writing for grammar, mechanics and spelling
