  3. NATIONS COMPETED FOR OVERSEAS EMPIRES • BRITAIN LED THE CHALLENGE. THEY NEEDED MORE RESOURCES TO RUN THEIR FACTORIES

  4. IMPERIALISM FOSTERED RIVALRIES • SPAIN, PORTUGAL, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, GERMAY, GREAT BRITAIN

  5. EUROPE BELIEVED IN ITS SUPERIORITY • THANKS TO THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION, THE EUROPEANS HAD WEAPONS, AND WAYS TO GET TO OTHER COUNTRIES

  6. CECIL RHODES SAID, • “I CONTEND THAT WE BRITONS ARE THE FIRST RACE IN THE WORLD, AND MORE OF THE WORLD WE INHABIT THE BETTER IT IS FORTHE HUMAN RACE”

  7. IMPERIALISM HAD MASS APPEAL • STORIES OF ADVENTURE IN FAR OFF LANDS GLORIFIED IMPERIALISM. NEWSPAPERS ALSO COMPETED FOR READERS SO NOT EVERYTHING WAS TRUE!

  8. IMPERIALISM IN AFRICA • DAVID LIVINGSTON WAS THE MOST FAMOUS EXPLORER WHO PREACHED THE GOSPEL TO THE NATIVES.

  9. IMPERIALISM IN INDIA • THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION RELIED ON INDIA FOR ITS SUPPLIES, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA WERE ALSO EXPLOITED AS A WORK FORCE.

  10. IMPERIALISM IN CHINA • THE CHINESE WERE SELF SUFFICIENT AND DID NOT NEED THE NEW PRODUCTS FROM THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION!!

  11. IMPERIALISM IN CHINA • THE EUROPEANS DID NOT GIVE UP AND GOT THE CHINESE HOOKED ON OPIUM!! THEY THEN RELIED ON THE EUROPEANS FOR THEIR NEW HABIT.

  12. IMPERIALISM IN JAPAN • THE JAPANESE UNLIKE THE CHINESE DID NOT FIGHT OFF IMPERIALISM AND LET THE THE EUROPEANS COME IN AND MAKE THEM BIGGER AND BETTER!!

  13. IMPERIALISM REACHED LATIN AMERICA • CHILE, PANAMA, CUBA, HAITI, NICARAGUA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

  14. IMPERIALISM AND THE WORLD • NO PART OF THE WORLD WAS TOO REMOTE FOR TRADE AND COLONIZATION.

  15. IMPERIALISM AND THE WORLD • THE INDUSTRIAL NATIONS WERE WILLING TO COMPETE EVEN FOR THE SMALLEST ISLAND.

  16. IMPERIALISM AND THE WORLD • BY THE EARLY 1900’S, EXPLORERS FROM SEVERAL NATIONS WERE RACING TO CLAIM EVEN THE FROZEN WASTES OF ANTARCTICA.
