  3. Weight and Time • 20% HL and 25% SL • 20 Hours which includes: • Explanation • Class time to work on HI • Out of class time to work on HI • Consultation

  4. Topics • Not bound by time period • 2 schools of thought • Use to increase efficiency of exam preparation (choose a topic that you study) • Use as an opportunity to explore something you don’t study in class, but interests you • Keep topic VERY narrow

  5. Topics • “Joyce’s ‘Ivy Day in the Committee Room’ and Parnell’s Fall” • “The Baroque Style as Catholic Propaganda” • “The Summer of Love: Not So Lovely” • “Wagner and the Nazis”

  6. Plan of Investigation • “Introduction” • Formulated as a question • Scope - “What” is being studied • Method - “How” is it being studied • Sources to be evaluated • Suggested Length 100-150 words • Marked out of 3

  7. Summary of Evidence • The data/facts or information that was discovered by the candidate • Can be prose or point form • Illustrations left to appendix • Suggested Length 500-600 words • Marked out of 6 • Properly referenced (not part of word count) • Organized thematically or chronologically

Evaluation of Sources • Evaluate 2 sources (primary or secondary) • Origin, purpose, values and limitations (OPVL) • If a secondary source, evaluation of the author’s argument • Sources important to the investigation • Significance to the investigation of the source • Suggested length 400-500 words • Marked out of 5

Analysis • Applying the “Evidence” to the question • Importance of topic in context - first paragraph • Where appropriate different interpretations • Don’t introduce new evidence - deal only with that which was in the Summary of Evidence • Make links with Section B • Make connections with section C • Suggested length 500-600 words • Marked out of 6

  10. Conclusion • The answer to the question • Consistent with Analysis • Making the connection between the Analysis and the question • Suggested length 200 words • Marked out of 2
