  1. How to Assign License for Power Platform

  2. What is Microsoft Power Apps? • Microsoft Power Apps is a low-code platform that allows business users to create custom applications without writing code. With PowerApps, you can quickly build apps that connect to your data and work across devices. Businesses can use PowerApps to automate processes, improve productivity, and engage customers. • There are two types of Power Apps: canvas apps and model-driven apps. Canvas apps start with a blank canvas and give you the freedom to design your app any way you want. Model-driven apps start with a data model and provide predefined entities, views, and forms. You can customize these components to build your app.

  3. Power App Licensing – Types of Licenses There are four types of PowerApps licenses, and each license type unlocks different features. Each license type has its own pricing, so you’ll need to choose the license that best meets your needs. You can find more information about pricing at Microsoft. Power Apps per App Pay-as-you-go Plan: • The Power Apps per App Pay-as-you-go plan is best for businesses that need a low-cost way to use custom apps. With this plan, you can create an unlimited number of apps and run them in production. You also get access to all the features in PowerApps, including connectors, expressions, variables, and controls. The pricing for this plan is $10USD per active user/app/month. • Active users are defined as those who have used an app in the last 30 days. • If you only need to use PowerApps for a short period of time, you can also purchase a monthly or yearly subscription. Monthly subscriptions start at $40USD per month, and yearly subscriptions start at $360USD per year. • Subscriptions include a certain number of active users (depending on the plan) and allow you to create an unlimited number of apps.

  4. Power Apps per User License: • The Power Apps per User license allows a single user to work with unlimited apps in production. With this license, you get all the features in PowerApps, including Premium connectors like Microsoft Dataverse. Microsoft Dataverse is a cloud-based data service that offers built-in capabilities like security, scalability, and high availability. The pricing for this license is $20USD per user/month. • Nevertheless, you may need different licenses for different business scenarios, making it important to understand how each license type works. Power Apps per App License: • The Power Apps per App license is best for businesses that want to solve one business scenario at a time. That is, you can create one app for each business scenario. For example, you might create a separate app for customer onboarding, another app for lead capture, and another app for expense approvals. • With this license type, you only pay for the apps you use in production. Each app can have an unlimited number of users. The pricing for this license is $5USD. Power Apps Nested License: • The Power Apps Nested license is best for businesses that want to use PowerApps within another application. Nevertheless, this license is included with the purchase of Dynamic 365 and Office 365 and offers features at no added cost. If your business scenario involves Dynamics 365, OneDrive, or SharePoint, you can use all the features of the Nested License. • It’s important to choose the license that best fits your business needs. If you’re not sure which license to choose, you can always contact Microsoft for help. They have a team of experts who can guide you through the process and help you find the best solution for your business.

  5. Assigning License for Power Platform Now that we’ve gone over the different types of PowerApps licenses let’s look at how to assign a license. • The first step is to log in to the Microsoft 365 admin center. Then, click Users > Active users. • Next, find the user you want to assign a license to and click Edit next to their name. • Under Product Licenses, select Power Apps and then choose the type of license you want to assign from the drop-down menu. • Finally, click Save changes. You’ve now successfully assigned a Power Apps license!

  6. Importance of Power App Licensing • There are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to Power Apps licensing. First, you need a license for each app that you want to use in production. Secondly, each app can have an unlimited number of users. And finally, you need to assign a license to each user who needs access to PowerApps. • The primary reason why licensing is important is that it allows you to control who has access to your apps. By assigning licenses, you can ensure that only the people who need access to PowerApps have it. This is important because PowerApps can be used to create business-critical applications. • Another reason why licensing is important is that it can help you manage costs. By understanding how many users you need and which license type fits your needs, you can avoid overspending on PowerApps.
