The Pelvic Girdle • The pelvic girdle is formed from the pair of hip bones comprised of: • The ilium • The pubis • The ischium • Which join with the sacrum posteriorly and join each other Anteriorly (symphysis pubis) • They form a bassin-like girdle which supports the bladder and abdominal contents

  4. The Lower Limb • The Femur • From the hip to the knee • The Patella (knee cap) • A sesamoid bone • Found in the tendon of the quadriceps muscle Femur Patella

The Lower Limb (continued) • Tibia and fibula • From the knee to the ankle, these are the leg bones • The fibula is lateral • The tibia is medial • Medial Malleolus and Lateral Malleolus • The distal ends of the two bones extend to the medial and lateral sides of the ankle • Commonly referred to as the ankle bones Fibula Tibia Lateral Malleolus Malléolemédiale

  9. Phalanges • The great toe has only 2 phalanges • The other four have 3 phalanges Proximal phalanx of the 5th digit Middle phalanx of the 3rd digit Distal phalanx of the 1st digit (great toe)
