  10. Initiation of Labor • Combination of hormones produce uterine contractions: • Estrogen levels rise • Placenta releases prostaglandins • Pituitary gland releases oxytocin

  12. 6-12 hours! Stages of Labor • Dilation • Cervix becomes dilated • Uterine contractions begin and increase • Amnion ruptures
