  1. Uintah School District Emergency Preparedness Training2013-2014

  2. Utah State law requires each local school board to adopt and maintain an emergency preparedness plan.

  3. Each individual school in the district shall prepare a school emergency preparedness plan, which shall be consistent with the district plan and approved by the Superintendent. • At the beginning of each school year a written summary of the relevant sections of both the district and school plan, which are applicable to each school, shall be provided to parents and staff members.

  4. All School District Employees Shall… • Familiarize themselves with the Emergency Preparedness Policy (available online at www.uintah.net) and the Emergency Preparedness Manual (available on the “District Trainings” page of www.uintah.net) for the school district and the school emergency preparedness plan for the school to which they are assigned; • Be prepared to activate and implement the plan as needed; • Perform any duties which are necessary to effectuate the activation and implementation of the plan and procedures referred to herein effectively;

  5. Constantly be alert to any situations or conditions on or about the school campus or any school facilities which could endanger students, staff or facilities; • If any weapons are observed or reported, the building administrator should be notified immediately and, if appropriate, law enforcement and/or other emergency personnel should be called in to assist;

  6. Immediately notify the building administrator of any situation or condition which may endanger students, staff or facilities; • Staff members shall pay particular attention to individuals seen in school buildings, facilities, or on or about school campuses that are not students, staff, or who do not appear to have legitimate business in that area; • Any persons observed on or about school campuses or facilities behaving in a suspicious manner or who do not appear to have legitimate business in the area where they are observed, should immediately be reported to the building administrator;

  7. A person who does not appear to belong on a school campus or who is behaving in a suspicious manner should be monitored until appropriate school or law enforcement officials can determine whether their presence is legitimate. • Any person behaving in a threatening or suspicious manner should not be allowed to have contact with students, nor be left alone in isolated areas of school facilities. • Each school shall adopt a plan for registering and identifying legitimate visitors to each school.

  8. Members of the faculty and staff shall teach emergency preparedness procedures to the students in their homerooms throughout the school year, as appropriate, and specifically during Emergency Preparedness Week, to be held prior to October 31 of each school year; • Students shall be provided with training appropriate to their ages in rescue techniques, first aid, safety measures appropriate for specific emergencies, and other emergency skills.

  9. In any emergency affecting only one school, the principal or building administrator over that facility shall assume primary responsibility; • In an emergency situation affecting more than one school, or the entire school district, the primary responsibility shall be assumed by the district superintendent; • Each school Emergency Preparedness Plan shall designate the person or persons that shall assume control of all emergency situations in the absence of the principal; • In all emergency situations, the superintendent shall be notified as quickly as possible, and he/she shall notify the school board members.
