  1. Part Twenty-Two Acts 9:32-43

  2. Acts 9:32-43

  3. Acts 9:32 Now it came about that as Peter was traveling through all those parts, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.

  4. Acts 9:33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years, for he was paralyzed.

  5. Acts 9:34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; arise, and make your bed.” And immediately he arose.

  6. Acts 9:35 And all who lived at Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.

  7. Acts 9:36 Now in Joppa there was a certain disciple named Tabitha (which translated in Greek is called Dorcas); this woman was abounding with deeds of kindness and

  8. Acts 9:36 charity, which she continually did.

  9. Acts 9:37 And it came about at that time that she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an upper room.

  10. Acts 9:38 And since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, entreating him, “Do not delay to come to us.”

  11. Acts 9:39 And Peter arose and went with them. And when he had come, they brought him into the upper room; and all the widows stood beside him weeping, and

  12. Acts 9:39 showing all the tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them.

  13. Acts 9:40 But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she

  14. Acts 9:40 saw Peter, she sat up.

  15. Acts 9:41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up; and calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

  16. Acts 9:42 And it became known all over Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

  17. Acts 9:43 And it came about that he stayed many days in Joppa with a certain tanner, Simon.

  18. No matter how big the body of Christ may get, it’s so important to minister to individuals.

  19. Moses nearly wore himself out doing that, until his father-in-law shared some good advice and told him to delegate.

  20. And then remember the crowds that followed Jesus.

  21. Though the crowds at times were massive, Jesus always had concern and time for individuals.

  22. Tonight we want to look at six elements of effective service and/or ministry.

  23. God clearly expects all Christians to pour their lives into others.

  24. 2 Timothy 2:2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

  25. Our passage today focused on the effective personal ministry of Peter.

  26. And here are the six elements of effective service and/or ministry that we should desire to emulate.

  27. Effective Service • Involved • Exalting Christ • Available • Prayerful

  28. Effective Service • Fruitful • Free from Prejudice

  29. Peter was Involved!(Acts 9:32-33)

  30. Acts 9:32 Now it came about that as Peter was traveling through all those parts, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.

  31. Acts 9:33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years, for he was paralyzed.

  32. Have you heard that phrase before, “If you want something to get done, give it to somebody that’s already busy.”

  33. Or maybe you’ve heard this one, “It’s easier to redirect a body already in motion than to get a body moving that’s been sitting still.”

  34. Peter has been on the move preaching the Gospel to all who would listen.

  35. And as he was traveling…

  36. How many of you know that as you’re ministering, you often come across more opportunities to minister?

  37. God often entrusts important ministry opportunities to His busiest saints.

  38. As he was traveling, he came to a place called Lydda.

  39. Lydda is the Old Testament city of Lod and the modern day location of Israel’s International Airport.

  40. When Peter arrived, he found a certain man named Aeneas who had been bed-ridden for eight years.

  41. Luke does not say why Aeneas was paralyzed, but we know he was beyond medical help.

  42. Would he have to remain bedridden for the rest of his life?

  43. As Peter got more involved in the situation, he discovered an open door for ministry.

  44. The miracle, besides its obvious impact in the life of Aeneas, was used by God to bring many people to faith in Jesus Christ.

  45. Effective Service • Involved • Exalting Christ • Available • Prayerful

  46. Peter Exalted Christ!(Acts 9:34-35)

  47. Acts 9:34 And Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; arise, and make your bed.” And immediately he arose.

  48. Acts 9:35 And all who lived at Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
