Why a focus on SLCN? Highest SEND identified at primary age Key impact on children’s outcomes Malleable in the early years.
Workforce development • Half day ‘core’ training for PVI EY setting managers: • focusing on what SLCN might look like, how to identify children and what support can be provided in the setting, as well as access to outside support. • One day ‘second level / In depth’ training for setting managers and others • Identification and intervention approaches for SLCN • Exploring models of good practice • Developing action plans for work to be carried out in settings.
Access to resources and advice • Strengthened support from I CAN’s Enquiry Service and additional information on Talking Point: • Signposted to information through training e.g. Progress Checker • Direct support available to individual managers, SENCo, practitioners and parents • Links to SEND Gateway.
Strategic development • Strategic support to 5 local authorities for SLCN in settings: • Identifying strengths / needs in the process / delivery of identification / support of SLCN • Enabling solutions to ensure that these gaps are filled.
Close partnership working • With nasen – core training, SEND Gateway • With TCT – SLCN Pathway, Platform 3 qualification • With CDC – regional and local action learning sets • With Contact – parent involvement in quality developments • With LAs and wider initiatives e.g. Early Outcomes, SMAP, Opportunity Areas, Better Start
