Learning Goals • Understand the settings of the Control Panel. • Identify different Control Panel and system preference settings. • Change settings. • Display a list of installed printers. • Describe system settings. • Describe how to install & uninstall software. • Identify problems related to installing/uninstalling programs.

  7. Hardware & Sound • Manage hardware, printers, sound, mouse, keyboard, scanner

  8. Programs • Uninstall program, turn Windows features on/off, add gadgets

  10. User Accounts • Add/remove/change users, passwords

  11. Appearance & Personalization • Desktop colors, background, resolution, sidebar, screen saver, show hidden files

  12. Clock, Lang. & Region • Set clock, date, time zone, currency

  13. Ease of Access • Adjust for vision, hearing, mobility disabilities • Larger text, magnify, visual cues, etc.

Control Panel • If on a network, the admin can restrict users from changing settings • What should you know… • Setting the screen saver & when it comes on • Setting the clock & date, time zone • Accessing the clock from notification area • Mouse settings, changing to lefty • Add a user • Change your password

  16. Printers • Check mark means default • Where it will print to if you click print • Can install many printers

  17. Install Software • 1st- backup your media • In case it gets scratched or lost • Keep product key • Put CD/DVD in drive • Click run • Or look for run or setup.exe • Follow steps

  18. Uninstall Software • Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall a program • Find program in list • Click Uninstall

  19. User Accounts • Standard • Can’t install/uninstall • Can’t change system settings • Administrator • Change picture, name

  20. Recycle Bin • Temp storage of deleted files • Shows empty or full • Each user has their own • Can restore files inside • Empty deletes all files bin

  21. Folder Options • Appearance of folders • How they open • Click Organize for option • Restore Defaults

  22. Selecting Files • Ctrl+A • Selects all • Ctrl+C • Copy • Ctrl+V • Paste • Press Control to select multiple • Use Shift to select a range • Do This in 7

  23. Rename a File or Folder • No two files in the same folder can have the same name • Black line around name= Edit Mode • Max 255 characters • Single click & press F2 • Right-click, rename

  30. Troubleshooting Software Problems • New software won’t install when you put in CD/DVD • Search CD/DVD for setup.exe • Files can’t be read by new software • File may be damaged • Might have been created in older version not compatible with new one
