  1. Preliminary core 1. Better health for individuals.

  2. Students are to investigate the following critical questions: • What does health mean to individuals? • What influences the health of individuals? • What strategies help promote the health of individuals?

  3. International organisations • Global health issues affect everyone, regardless what country a persons lives in. • International collaboration is important to improve Australia’s health, as Australia is able to learn from and contribute to international and regional health issues. • International organisations can and do assist Australia in developing: • Health policies and resources • And providing a comparison with health of other nations.

  4. United nations • UN plays a crucial role in assisting countries to address issues that they cannot resolve on their own. • Key focus includes issues relating to children, education, poverty, peace, health, HIV/AIDS, human rights, climate change, emergencies and women. • Partnerships with celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Michael Douglas and Nicole Kidman help to advocate for those less fortunate in the world.

  5. The World Health Organisation (WHO). • The main functions of the world health organisations are: • To give worldwide guidance in the field of health. • To cooperate with governments to strengthen the planning, management and evaluation of national health programs. • To develop and transfer appropriate health technology, information and standards for human health.

  6. World bank • The world bank focuses on the inclusion and sustainability of globalisation to developing countries. • The assistance provided through financial and technical support enables developing countries to improve the health and infrastructure of their population. • Even though Australia is not a developing country they have strong links with the world bank and seeks advice on global issues such as refugees coming to Australia and any health risks that may be brought upon.

  7. Organisation of economic Co-operation and development. • They monitor and evaluate economic trends in countries around the world. • It aims to assist countries to achieve sustainable economic growth and employment, promote trade among countries, promote policies that demonstrate best practices for the economic and social welfare of a countries population and assist developing countries to improve their economics.

  8. Understand and apply • Assess the statement: ’What happens in other parts of the world does not impact on health of individuals in Australia’ • Assess the statement: ‘Individual organisations alone can improve the health of individuals’ . • Investigate the various health promotion campaigns or programs one of the international organisations undertakes. Discuss how this can improve the health of Australia.
