Welcome to the 2nd grade! This document covers essential information including policies on homework, classroom expectations, and school events like birthdays and class parties. The BEE Book, which stands for Bring Everything Everyday, must be used for homework and important communications. Students are expected to complete daily homework and adhere to uniform guidelines. Parents play an active role in signing important forms and scheduling meetings. For any further inquiries, please refrain from asking during the presentation and wait until the end.

BEE Book • Stands for Bring Everything Everyday • Includes Discipline Chart • Must be signed daily • Includes homework for the week • Includes all upcoming important dates • Homework Dings (if homework was not completed for that night) • All discipline charts must be left in BEE Book (used for documentations)
BEE Book • Homework – 1st Tab • Used only for homework • No other papers should be in this tab • Back to School – 2nd Tab • Papers need parent’s attention • Papers may need signatures, be from the office, permission forms, etc. • Papers need to be sent back to school in this tab, not in the homework tab
BEE Book • Parent Information – 3rd Tab • Information Flyers from school/facilities • Papers include newsletters, flyers, PTO information • Clean tab out every Tuesday • Parent Points and Personal Educational Plan (PEP) – 4th Tab • Includes parent points documentation sheet • Teacher will keep it updated • Parents are responsible for scheduling PEPs and Parent Observations on the computer when the events starts.
BEE Book • Reading Log– 5th Tab • Document minutes read each night • Reading Response form • Graded Work – 6th Tab • All graded work will come home on Tuesdays • Please clean out folder that night. Papers will be thrown away on Friday
Homework • Homework must be completed every night. • Students will receive a Ding for unfinished homework • After 5 Homework Dings, students will be sent to the office • Students will be dismissed from Compass after 9 Homework Dings. • Due to the flexibility of 2nd grade’s homework, there shouldn’t be any reason for not completing it. • If students are absent, they are still responsible to complete the homework for missed day. If it isn’t completed, they may receive a Homework Ding.
Homework • Students will complete 2 Spelling Activities a week • Parents must initial Spelling Activity that was completed • Student must shade in Spelling Activity box that was completed • Spelling Chart will be used for the entire month • May complete 2 activities on any day before Friday.
Lunch • Must sign up on Volunteer Spot to have lunch with child • If you do not sign up, you will not be allowed to come and eat lunch • Sign up is on your child’s teacher’s class website - www.mycompassacademy.org • 2nd grade is only allowing lunch visitors on Tuesdays and Thursdays • Only 2 visitors are allowed • Water or clear non-carbonated drinks only. No to-go drinks from fast food restaurants
Emails • Please read emails carefully, they are full of information • Keep emails kind and professional
Uniforms • Blue jean must be worn on bottom • All shirts must be Compass approved • Socks must be solid school colors • Tennis with lases or Velcro only. No slip on shoes • Leggings – solid school colors • Girls’ shorts and skirts must be no more than 3 inches above the knee, or to the knee • No unnatural hair coloring or extensions allowed
Dr. Appointments • Please make appointments in the afternoon • Majority of classroom instruction is done in the morning
Birthdays and Class Parties • All Birthdays will be celebrated on Birthday Bash • If child is passing out invitations to a party, they must have one for all students in class • If its an all girl/boy party, invites must be given outside of school • No special treats my be brought to school on child’s birthday • All classroom parties are closed events. Parents will not be able to attend.
2nd Grade Expectations • Math facts – addition and subtraction 0 – 12 facts • Reading on or above grade level • Able to write 4 or more complete sentences
