As the semester nears its end, it’s time to reflect on your Geometry journey. What has been your favorite topic, and what challenged you the most? Consider your current grade: are you satisfied, or do you feel there’s room for improvement? Share your action plan for maintaining or boosting your grade. Additionally, engage with key questions about the relationships of polygon areas and circles, and apply your understanding through a problem involving a goat and grazing options. Let’s prepare for a strong finish!

Journal Prompt • On a separate piece of paper: • With only two units left of the semester, how do you feel about Geometry? • What was your favorite topic? • What was your least favorite? • How do you feel about your current grade? • What are you going to do to keep it up? • What are you going to do to bring your grade up? • Turn in to Mr. K
Unit 9 Essential Questions • How do areas of similar polygons compare? • How are the areas of polygons and circles related and applied?
Unit 9 Bonus Question • A farmer has a goat and he is trying to decide where to allow him to graze. • Option 1: He can be tethered to the side of a square 10ft by 10ft shed. The tethering rope is 18 feet long and tied to a post in the middle of one of the sides. • Option 2: A 14 feet by 17 feet rectangular fenced in area. He has a rhombus shaped shed in the middle of the fence that has a diagonal length of 4 feet and 3 feet that the goat will not be allowed to enter. • Which option should the farmer choose so the goat will have more area to graze? Provide mathematical reasoning behind your answer.
Today’s Objective • Students will be able to find the perimeter, area, and circumference of polygons
Definitions Perimeter: The distance around a figure (sum of all sides) Area: The amount of square units inside a figure Circumference: The distance around a circle
Area of a Square s s
Ex. 1 Find area and perimeter 7cm 4cm
