  1. NOBEL Technical AuditWP4 Objectives & AchievementsFebruary xx, 2005 Work Package 4 Network Management and Control/Protocols Monika Jäger, T-Systems WP4

  2. Scope of WP4 • To analyze and propose simplified strategies and interworking of Network Management and Control of core and metro networks. • In collaboration with work packages from WPG1, WPG2 and WPG3, to investigate MP and CP aspects, and to develop strategies/functions for evolutionary NOBEL network architectures and scenarios. • To investigate a comprehensive set of aspects and functions in detail, leading to simplified solutions which will be communicated towards standardization. • Accompanying the conceptual studies, to perform NM and ASON/ GMPLS prototype implementations and experimental evaluations, in collaboration with WP8. WP4

  3. WP4 Overview and Goals of Year 1 • Summarize in a few words the goals and the achievements of Y1 WP4

  4. WP4 Activities • A4.1 - Network Management (NM) and Control/Protocol (CP) requirements and functional scope • A4.2 - Performance, fault management, fault localization and QoS monitoring requirements and solutions • A4.3 - Inter-domain, multi-layer NM and CP and Service Management aspects • A4.4 - Standardization approaches, especially centralized vs. distributed implementation of NM and CP functions • A4.5 - NM and CP prototype function and design specification, implementation and test WP4

  16. WP4 Deliverables • D2 “”Definition of Network Management and Control requirements of network scenarios and solutions supporting Broadband Services for All”. D2 reports on the identification and discussion of the high-level management and control requirements of the NOBEL network, for the provision of network services to user-applications triggered from client networks. (April 2004) • WP4 is working on Deliverable D18 “Conclusions on NM and CP functional scope and standardization approaches; NM and ASON prototype functional scope”. (to be delivered March 2005) WP4

  21. Signaling Framework TF Objectives and Status • Resolve interoperability issues raised by the NOBEL scenarios, such as I-NNI, E-NNI, and corresponding (signaling) protocol issues: • Cooperation between MPLS-GMPLS • Convergence between ASON and GMPLS concepts and paradigms • Propose enhancements to an IP-based signaling protocols for the end-to-end service and the vertically integrated control plane vision of NOBEL • The work may cover issues and solutions pertaining to signaling (intra- and inter-carrier), addressing, routing, and Traffic Engineering . In addition, we consider security, policy control, business models etc • Status: work started by the beginning of December. First TF document is under preparation. (Deadline: February) • Number of contributing partners: 5 or 6 WP4

  22. VPN TF Objectives and Status • Propose a potentially homogeneous solution to (control plane-based) Layer 1, 2, and 3 VPNs, and their management issues with reference to the NOBEL scenarios • The work may cover definitions, info-models, functions, and architecture aspects to control plane-based VPNs as well as VPN management functions (i.e. PE/CE-based) for both customer service management and provider network management • Status: work started by the beginning of December. First TF document is under preparation. (Deadline: February) • Number of contributing partners: 7 or 8 WP4
